We were hesitant to reveal the title, but our editor Facebooked it, so here it is. We are making final edits, and then the manuscript will go into production. Publication is expected in September 2011.
The story will take you to new societies (both human and vampire) and show you much more of the world made by the Great Killing. But at its heart, the book is a story about characters (both human and vampire), the ones you came to love in The Greyfriar, and new ones too. As with the first book, it's a pulp adventure story with romance, steampunk style, dark fantasy angst, against a background of epic politics and war. Oh, and vampires.
We're very excited about the new book and we hope that if you liked The Greyfriar, you will love The Rift Walker.

Thanks, Luna.

Can't wait--I am looking forward to #2.
Cheers!

ooh, nice. can't wait! being more of a manga reader, it was neat to read a book that satified my manga sences as far as that goes, but it also prompted me to revisit the american comics that I loved (and even, to search out some more of those).

Yes ! I loved Greyfriar, and can't wait for the next book in your series.
Can't wait! I just finished the first book and absolutely loved it!
Again, thanks everyone. We really hope you guys like the 2nd book as much as the first. It's different, but with a lot of the same stuff you loved about The Greyfriar.
I just finished reading the first book and had a great time. Looking forward to the next book, I just hope it's not going to end like Romeo and Juliet. (two lovers from clans that hate each other follow their hearts and end up dead.)

Glad you liked it, and that is a great idea for Book 2. Wonder if we can get the manuscript back from the publisher? We make no promises over who lives and who dies.
haha, fair enough. Like many readers, I'm always prepared to create my own personal 'Alternate Histories'.
Also, here are my favorite quotes: 'It takes only one, Gareth, to beat the drums of change.' & 'There are springs in the mind from which others cannot drink.' I think I'll go share this wisdom with others via facebook.
I just read The Greyfriar and it was wonderful. Epic. I sat and just stared off into space for like 30mins after I finished pondering and thinking about the book. I can't wait for The Rift Walker.
I have just finished Greyfriar and in the words of Oliver Twist. "May I have some more please".
As Mr. Bumble said, "Yes you may. In September."
I just read The Greyfriar in one afternoon - disregarding my poor WIP in favor of being rescued by Greyfriar and having my resolve renewed by Adele.
I want you to know that I was captivated within pages, utterly in love by the end of chapter 3 and completely riveted until the last page.
September seems so far away.
Sorry to keep you from your work. But thank you for the terrific feedback. We're really glad you enjoyed it.
Looking forward to September, and the only reason will be The Rift Walker - I'm a summer person :) I can't wait to see what you come up with and what kind of trouble you will throw Adele & Gareth into this time.
Hopefully The Rift Walker will warm up your autumn! But it'll probably be out early enough for that last late summer vacation before the chill of October.
I can't wait- I loved the first book and an an impatient reader- Thanks for letting us know- I've got it in my calendar.
Utterly perfect! I can't tell you the angst and aching I felt at the end. I'm in love with Gareth and his Adayla :)Thank you for that extraordinary story, and to many more!

Thank you very much. We're glad you liked it, and there will be 2 more, at the least!
I read your first book and it was amazing. I usually am not the type to read adult fiction, I'm in the awkward between spot between teenage and adulthood so I'm not usually the one who will pick up an adult novel yet, (aside from anne rice) and this was absolutely awesome. I wish I could find as many books in adult genre as this that interests me. So, I can't wait until the 2nd one comes out! It's a book I actually have been waiting on! (I usually just pick up a book when it's in the book store and don't bother checking for when it will be out)

Glad you found us! We hear you about the gap between teen and adult books. Seems like when we were young(er), there were more adult books in stores that were perfectly suitable for younger readers, particularly in sci-fi/fantasy. It made the transition from childrens books to adult books easy. Maybe that's why Young Adult has grown so quickly as a category to fill that gap between books intended for elementary school kids and adult books that are now too adult for young teens.
Thanks for reading, and hope you enjoy The Rift Walker in September.
This is really great news, I am reading the Greyfriar now and Rift Walker I am sure will be another great addition to the steampunk genre. Keep 'em coming!!
I loved this book. Picked it up for a airplane trip. I love this genre and this book was great!! Finished the book going down and reread it coming back. Ones of those books that you can not wait to turn the page and wanted to really absorb all the wonderful descriptive details of places and characters. One of those books that really absorbs you in the story. Going to be a loonnnggg wait till September!!
Mark -- thanks a lot. We hope the steampunk crowd will really like Vampire Empire. And, in your photo, are you reading to your cat, or is your cat reading to you?
Shonda -- we are thrilled you liked The Greyfriar. September will be here before you know it.
I loved the first book and can't wait for the next one!
I can't waite to read the second book. I could barley put greyfriar down once I started to read it!
Pet and Crystal...
Thank you very much. We're delighted you found the book and enjoyed it!

I'm almost finished with Greyfriar and I'm glad to hear there is a second book, but sad it isn't till September. :( I'm really enjoying it thus far. Like Jeffowick I've been getting the same Romeo and Juliet vibe and I too hope I'm wrong.
I also have to say that strangely the main villain wasn't the worst one to me. I really hope this villain doesn't win.
As Green Day wrote, "Wake me up when September ends" because I'll know for sure the latest edition will be out. :D
I enjoyed this book a ton. I cannot wait to read more about it!!! I love your style of writing it is very captivating and I hope my writing can someday be as good.
Thank you very much for the comments on the book, and our writing. Just keep at it and you'll be fine. They only way to get better at writing is to write. And read, of course.
Thank you so much for Book One. Your character creation is nothing less than fully compelling. I really got a tangible sense of relation to them. September is just around the corner and I also can't wait to continue the journey.
Hugs, Jadi.
Thanks, Jadi.
We love our characters, even the bad ones, and we're glad it shows.
